Image of the Day, Mounting with Timeless Varnish, & Varnishing Embellished Prints

In today’s show, rather than just focusing on one question, I’m gonna answer a few different questions all in one. Let’s jump right in to the first question.

Steve with North of Superior art asks: “I would like to know where or how to submit an image, printed with your product, to be selected as Image of the Day.”

That’s a great question, Steve, I get asked this quite a bit, actually. For those of you who don’t know, we started Image of the Day to basically appreciate and share art that we think is awesome or unique. Nick from Foeppel Custom Framing asks: “Can you use the Timeless gloss to mount a photo or canvas to a rigid substrate like you can with Glamour II?”

That’s a great question, Nick. For those of you who don’t know, we wrote a blog article a while back kind of explaining how you can use our Glamour II print varnish as a mounting adhesive as well. I’ll include the link to the blog article in the show notes page so be sure to stick around to the end of the episode where I’ll give you the link to that show notes page.

Now, to answer your question Nick, since Timeless is quite a bit thinner in consistency than the Glamour II is (which I’m sure you would notice if you’ve used both), it doesn’t really work as well as a mounting adhesive. You can use it, but I find that the strength of the mount isn’t quite as good, and honestly I’d just stick with using the Glamour II if I were you.

Robert from RobertGoodlad.com asks: “I’ve been using Lyve and Timeless for some time now. I have started using an acrylic impasto on top of the Lyve. Is this okay to varnish with Timeless?”

That’s a great question, Robert. Just to clarify for our listeners – Robert is basically doing a print on Lyve canvas, and then using an acrylic impasto on top of the print and now is wondering if it’s okay to go ahead and varnish that embellished print with the Timeless varnish.

The answer to that question is yes. The only thing I want to include, is you need to really make sure that the acrylic is fully dry before you kind of seal it in with the Timeless varnish. I normally recommend at least 48 hours for this to happen. Really, I would let it dry for probably like a week before I varnished a piece of my own. You just want to make sure that those acrylics really dry out as well as possible. But yeah, totally fine to go ahead and varnish with Timeless after you embellish. Shouldn’t have any problems. Also want to mention, it’s not safe to use oils on top of the canvas, we don’t really recommend that. We’ve done some tests with this, and notice that you can get some discoloration – the oil paints cause some kind of discoloration with the inkjet canvas. So, I always recommend sticking with acrylic. So I hope that helps out.
